Last Night I Dreamed of Chickens

Last night I dreamed of chickens,
there were chickens everywhere,
they were standing on my stomach,
they were nesting in my hair,
they were pecking at my pillow,
they were hopping on my head,
they were ruffling up their feathers
as they raced about my bed.

They were on the chairs and tables,
they were on the chandeliers,
they were roosting in the corners,
they were clucking in my ears,
there were chickens, chickens, chickens
for as far as I could see...
when I woke today, I noticed
there were eggs on top of me.

    adding to Milti Symeonoglou's assessment,
the eggs might symbolize that after such dreams one definitely has time enough to avert a future tragedy, if used wisely.

Were you visiting Arkansas when you dreamt of chickens, I wonder? Being the 'chicken capitol' (thanks to Tyson) I often dream of chickens and see eggs first thing in the morning too. Thanks for sharing your charming wit, it makes me smile.

Some poems do have a hidden meaning. But don't think this one does. I think it was meant to make people smile. Poems like these are never really accepted as masterpieces because they aren't depressing.

I could be wrong but i think it means that whoever is dreaming sees a ton of problems in every part of his house (figurative-the world) but when he wakes up he sees the eggs (the starting signs of the problems to come/Or it could be that he sees the aftermath of the world's problems and has a small waiting period in between two large catastrophes.)
