Lawfully Unlawful Poem by France Tamaca

Lawfully Unlawful

The tics and tacs of my watch stopped dead
The instant we rushed in
I’ve had awful days
Been standing still
Desolate… forlorn.

And now you are here… we are.
Gone are the tears I’d worn.

Maybe we weren’t here for so long,
But it’s been a year.
We haven’t tasted our vicious hearts just yet til we got here.

The best things in life—
They’re just not free.

Most have trial versions—
And ours?
We’ll lose our heads if we indulge ourselves to it clumsily.

I’ve been dying to get out.
Been dying to live.

And nothing, not a single molecule could surpass a little of importance, a little of your time, a little of your life you’ve been trying to give.

I’ve never been happier for you, never.
But sometimes I would think if it’s “us”, I’ll be euphoric... and more.

Had we met, perhaps, a decade or so before.

And now we’re here.
And nothing else matters.
But you, and me… and me, and you.

No furtive flaunts, no barriers, no frontiers.
No secret smiles, no other else, no further ado.

I will be here as other’s world would shatter…

Three more hours and I’m bound to remain here…

For ever.
