Leaving San Francisco Poem by gershon hepner

Leaving San Francisco

Rating: 5.0

Leaving San Francisco I felt gay,
and wore fresh flowers in my button-hole,
but then my gayness went away
once in Los Angeles, which was my goal.
I wonder where the flowers have all gone
since I departed from the area’s bay;
I tried so hard to cross the Rubicon,
and feel deflated as last night’s soufflé.
If I go back again I think I may
prove I am truly master of my fate,
unless it is beshert that in LA
I must forever stay, remaining straight.

Leaving San Francisco on March 13th,2008, after the termites had all been exterminated from my house, I wore a gay sprig of flowers in my button-hole. This poem epitomizes the epiphany I had at that moment.
