Lemons For Milk Poem by Kuda Bondamakara

Lemons For Milk

One day a pastor sat with his wife;
Under the shade of the Mopane Tree
To enjoy tea.

Times were hard;
The congregation was not giving as much;
So it was tea with no milk.

But along came the church deacon
Who was alarmed to see pastor and wife
Sipping bitter black tea.

'No, no, revered pastor;
Never shall you have tea without milk
When we your congregants are blessed
Put the black tea back in the pot
And I promise to do something about it'

So he mounted his bicycle
Rode off at great a speed
And the pastor waited in excitement.

True to his word
The deacon was back in no time
With a full large plastic bag

'Here, take this pastor;
There are lemons in there;
They help black tea taste better'
