There are songs that I can’t forget
Of joys that I once knew
And precious moments of my life
That oft I’ve heard anew
Songs have flown away from me
Into a misty past
Oh, let those songs never sink
Beyond my memory’s grasp
The songs I sang when I was young
Were carried by a youthful breeze
To golden plains and valleys green
And distant endless seas.
I remember songs of youth
I still sing when I’m alone
Though shadows deep around me fall
Soon I’ll be going home
But let my heart keep memory’s songs
As night starts to come to me
Those songs and joys that I once knew
They’ll forever set me free.
Let me keep my memory’s songs
To light the darkest night
And guide me homeward through the stars
As my soul takes its flight.
