Let's Make A New India Poem by Omjoy Halder

Let's Make A New India

Seventy long happening years have gone by,
India has progressed and achieved some high.
But the journey has been marred by some things so low,
Which strike nation's progress a severe blow.

170 million people still live in penury,
While the rich splurge to make merry.
Even if they donate a morsel of their wealth,
The hungry souls can keep their health.
Is it the work of Govt. only to rid poverty?
No, let's join hands to make it a history.

They say, India would be the richest nation,
If there is absolutely no corruption.
But alas! It has engulfed the rich, the powerful and even persons of high pedigree,
Stir up your conscience and make India corruption-free.

It's a matter of shame and pity,
That ancient evil of castiesm is still a reality.
It's not an evil that resides only in the hearts of villages,
Just turn to matrimony pages, you would see its images.
We don't cast our votes but vote our caste,
It's high time my friend, we make it a thing of past.

We squabble to build mosque and temple,
Beside us, in religious violence most countries pale.
We even kill our brothers in the name of cow,
Enough is enough, to renounce communalism take the vow now.

Let's take pledge to make India free of poverty,
Corruption, communalism, terrorism, dirt and caste.
Let a new shining India rise where peace and prosperity would forever last.
