Lights Out Poem by Zvinodaishe Kusangaya

Lights Out

Lights Out

The darkness creeped on him like a disease,
Futility had now become his middle name,
How did the lights turn off with such ease?
Life was a dangerous and scarring game.

He was cast out and unwanted like a leper,
No one would touch, help or even love him.
Through the pain he believed it'd get better,
He lied to himself that Thee had found him.

The candle dimmed and then flickered out,
This darkness had become all too bright.
Would they know what this was all about?
Or would they remain ignorant and blind.

Voices whispered and screamed in the dark,
They echoed thoughts he had tried to let go.
'Hey listen to them damn it man I said HARK!
They're all too silent, they're gone. Oh no...'

What was it? What was this thing called light?
And why did it appear to be so important to all?
Wasn't the absence of light simply called night?
Or was this the ignorance that led him to fall?

He saw the darkness when he closed his eyes,
It had always been there like his soul mate.
The truth he needed was only found in lies,
The love he yearned for, only found in hate.

Lights out, just the darkness. It's was the end,
I was the light he'd prayed for all these days.
He wanted to run away, no light and no friend,
So him and I we went our separate ways.
