Liquor on sale - Drink and merry

We call it free India with liberty
people are living with democracy
freedom of movement and freedom of attacking persons
with no thoughts or reasons
we are not worried about deaths
we have put aside the faith
we shall not care about lockdown
we are irresponsible and this is well known
We want to go back
and stake our presence
by walk, by train or plane
something should be done
what about this liquor?
we want it for our false honor
let there be no ration at home
but we are jubilant at news and welcome
let it be any extra duty or Cess
we shall face
but no hardship should be imposed for our consumption
we are firm in our assumptions
how does it matter?
if lines are little longer
we shall stand in hot sun
despite baton charge, we shall not run away
liquor is our ally
let remain empty
the belly
and family too

Now don't get me wrong. Do not immediately conclude that I must e an alchoholic. what I am merely trying to convey is that poets of late are in hurry to find culprits and deride them. Perhaps a little bit of empathy would not be misplaced. Rajeev Moothedath, Bangalore, May 08,2020
