Little Rocks, Big Rocks Poem by Juan Olivarez

Little Rocks, Big Rocks

Rating: 5.0

Little rocks, big rocks, of a thousand kind.
Pretty little treasures, I happened to find.
Diorite, Serpentenite, Quartz, and Sandstone,
Found in the Mojave for my very own.

A years worth of walking, in the desert sands,
I gathered these rocks, with my own two hands.
And I saved them all back in Twenty Nine Palms,
The good lords daily distribution of alms.

There's twenty five pounders, and tiny little things,
More precious than a vase from the dynasty Ming.
Little Quartz pebbles with veins of pure gold,
Brilliant colors so vibrant and bold.

Serpentinite, from a sea long since dead,
Sandstones so beautiful in yellow and red.
Beautiful black Diorite, with splotches of white,
So brilliant and bright, you can see it at night.

Marble from Big Bear, and Quartz clear and fine,
With golden streaks prominant, like tiny gold vines.
These are my treasures, I found so far away,
In Twenty Nine Palms in my Mojave days.

this poem resonates, myself being once a collector of rocks and fossils during my studies of geology.

You know how much I also love the desert, so you know I love this poem. I also have a love affair with rocks and stones, so this poem has especially touched my heart. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. As always they are a real treasure.

I have just recently bought a sculptured pair of hands, white bisque, designed to be God's hands...in them I keep a collection of my stones, quartz, geodes, minerals and such....each supposedly has a healing property all their own. Tiny treasures I like to believe help in my everyday dealings. Thanks for sharing this gem...pun true intended! PEACE...and pretty pebbles
