Loneliness Can Be Poem by Juan Olivarez

Loneliness Can Be

Rating: 5.0

Loneliness can be, a trusted friend,
When your world closes in.
Or when no one has an ear to lend,
And you take it on the chin.

Loneliness can be, the only friend around,
Locked in your room perpetually.
When you abhor all human sounds,
Withdrawing slowly, from reality.

Loneliness is a good friend to have,
To deal with pain and misery.
When you detest gaiety and laughs,
It's better than bad company.

This poem reminds me of my adolescence. In childhood's early years I felt lonely in gradeschool, until I had some friends. Then in adolescence I went through this intense lonely spell again and it seemed bottomless. I did seek solitude and my own company too often- we had a cellar; nobody bothers you in the cellar, do they? (even if you need a little bothering in that dank hole) . I think I put myself in solitary confinement sometimes. This poem sums it up perfectly.
