Long Live The Chacha And Children Poem by Purusottam Chuli

Long Live The Chacha And Children

Rating: 4.5

November fourteen every year
Is the day for merry-making and cheer;
For Chacha with silver spoon got born
To keep children of Mother India in fun.

His only daughter was apple of his eye
And thus his dearest child one
And his letters to her are
Still most instructive under the sun.

He felt himself to be a child
Under banyan tree Bapuji
And learnt and manoeuvred his political rod
Having ordained with the cosmic blessings of Gandhiji.

Know not I why they were so dear to him;
Yet I am sure, his heart was only throbbing for them;
His laughs and angers were like a child and candid
Forgetting that he was Prime Minister with insight.

When a child knocks at his door for his blessing
‘I have been blessed to see you' was his saying;
The honour that he bestowed as an angel on them
Is yet to be seen, felt and learnt by heart by them.

Children and roses embedded his heart for ever
Never did he even dream of bidding goodbye to them ever;
He nurtured nascent India and the buds for long 17 years
And left for heavenly abode in his Platinum Jubilee Year's.

Children of today feel orphaned by his long absence
And are eager for his rebirth for idyllic innocence;
His fun and frolic is now in the butt of crooked politics
125th birth day of his is celebrated in his successor's absence.
