Look For Your Own Dream Poem by Deborah White

Look For Your Own Dream

Rating: 5.0

I don’t give a green eyed, diddly squat
about what you or anyone has or hasn’t got.
The simple things in life really do please me.
Like sitting quietly, havin a nice cup of tea.

I’m happy with my wrong side of forty somethin years,
and content being me. I don’t see that being anyone
else could be much better than this. My ordinary
Geordie life is actually kinda sweet and kinda bliss.
I have special people in my Tyneside world, but I am
not just an Angel of the North, black and white girl.

I like my Toon home don’t get me wrong but it is not
and never will be a “gong” It’s just where I lay me
down to sleep, it’s beds to make, toilets to clean,
floors to sweep. An Englishman’s castle in a sunny
suburban Newcastle upon Tyne street, is where I hang
my pink hat and I rest my aching,40 something feet.

My passion is song, music and sport, my hero’s
Kelly Holmes and Chris Hoy. Every time I watch them,
I could jump out of my white cotton sox with sheer joy.
They both did good and they got their Olympic dream.
Everything that glistens can be gold, you just need to
dig deep to find the shimmer of your own seam.

I found mine a lifetime ago in the shape of an ipod, a
gorgeous silver saxophone, and a shiny red racing bike.
And because my children are just about grown, I can
mostly do what and when I like, right here at home.
I have all the time in the world, to just be ordinary me,
and sit and quietly drink that very nice cup of tea.

I love my girlie things, my clothes, jewellery, my make up,
and my Eldon Square Boots smellies. But I am equally at
home in a pair of dirty old farm wellies. I like fashion and
style and have done for a very long while. But right now
it’s the Sage that’s vogue, and truly the Rage.

I can’t wait from one week, one performance to the next,
and I definitely can’t say who I’ve seen and liked best.
All I know is my golden seam is well and truly sewn. I
won’t have to bring coals back to my beloved Newcastle.
My Geordie Girl life is here, it’s just wonderful,
and it’s all my very own.

I love this poem! It has a spit in your eye attitude, and a contentment with ones life, that is so appealing. It is a blessing to appreciate our many gifts, the simple pleasures in life. Well written. Kathleen

A delightful introspection of a well-defined.........mind....of contentment! Excellent composition.
