Lord Can You Hear Me? Poem by Babalola Augustine Adeola

Lord Can You Hear Me?

I was eating iyan and efo riro with eran igbe
With emu fun fun waiting to wash it down.
Good food for a prince.
Only to wake up hungry.
'Cos i went to bed hungry.
Hoping my bed will provide the solace.

Saved through college
To get a degree accompanied with great bitterness.
For it fetched no food.
Papa and mama still feed me.

Adaba used to work with Ijapa.
So diligent and never wanting.
His only flaws was
Not adding more zero to the figure.
Now, we listen to the morning news together.

I tried to trade in politics.
For a good man i have earned myself.
With their love dwelling in my heart.
My worst decision ever.
'God hate lies and humans the truth'

God can you hear us?
Nigeria is enjoying so much peace
That fear has replaced our hearts.
Our Eden garden has turned hell.
Successfull that beggers adores our streets like ornaments.
Our health facilities is one of the best in the world.
Making people not wanting to come back home.

Our leaders are soo good to a fault.
So selfless that they earn the 'ijapa's title'
With perfect followers.
That when the opportunity visits,
We will suck it to death for me alone.

God are you still listening?
We have taken good care of your garden by planting so much trees.
That draught and hunger have become our beloved neigbhours.
With wars encroaching on us all.
While walls are rising and people are falling.

God please,
Hear the prayer of the lazy girl,
Who works hard day and night.
Or how do i explain that when she is still forcedly marrird to poverty.
And hence making us eat in our sleep.
