Lover's Game Poem by Casey Gochnour

Lover's Game

You left but you’re still in love with me,
You claim that you can’t have my romantics,
And you already see,
It’s not easy for you to always just live without me.

Babe, I know what you need,
And you probably think I’m the same,
But I’m not the one to blame.
I’m just living, I’m just giving in,
To your lover’s game.

Hate me, toss our old love out the door,
Now come close, it’s time to make some more.
Now that the old love’s gone, we can make some new,
Every little bit will start with you.
‘Cause our old love, we’ll toss it out the door,
Hate me and come see what’s in store.

I know you’re gone and you need time,
You act like it’s only a solo climb.
Even though I’m right here to help you,
Since I support everything you do.

You’ve left me feeling so hollow,
Yet I know I’ll be a tough act to follow,
Isn’t that something hard to swallow?

Babe, I know what you need,
Honestly, you probably think I’m still the same,
But I hope you know I’m not the one to blame.
I’m just living, I was giving in,
To your lover’s game.

But I’m begging you to,

Hate me, toss our old love out the door,
Now come close, it’s time to make some more.
Now that the old love’s gone, we can make some new,
Every little bit will start with you.
‘Cause our old love, we’ll toss it out the door,
Hate me now, and come see what’s in store.

Just know, just know that I’m not to blame,
I’m not to blame,
In your lover’s game.
