Love-Worn Smooth Poem by Mark Heathcote

Love-Worn Smooth

I want to endure like a stone.
And become love-worn smooth.
But all this takes time and patience.
It takes years of constant pain, sorrow,
and love in equal parts.
At times, like these hard, brittle rocks,
we, too, can be broken in half.
But at least, even if we are broken in half,
at least we can say I tried.
I tried and endured the pull of the ocean tides,
and I would do it all again
to become only a grain of sand.
