The day is bright
and the contrast, very striking
The fool shall remain a fool on any day;
But the birth of a great woman
Comes as a gift in one day
Your gentleness flows with endless joy
Your smile,
the welcoming gesture
that makes our troubled faculties relax
with each glance that we steal
And your speech so soft,
It persuades our flustered hearts to calm
As an ewe follows her master to the kill
Humility rests on your head
And your shoulders are strong for the weeping head
Days always pass us by
and years move along with our trains
But your beauty forever remains
And that which we sponged,
greatly imparts upon us
Alack, my words are few
And your elegance,
it beggars all description
that only the good witherless Rock
Shall voice the final words
So in my closet,
on the first son of the next April,
I shall remember to say,
' Happy birthday Esther Beninwa Jackson',
As He gives me the honour to.
