Meadowsweet Poem by Mark Heathcote

Meadowsweet

I want to gather you up in my arms like meadowsweet
Smell the earth in my hands like an unfired pot
Feel and taste the brackish waters that surround your feet
Have you leaned against me like a willowy clothes prop?
I want to switchblade like shadows in a mingling dance
Have a mutual share in all your footsteps
Before, during and after any untoward mischance.
Have volumes past and future written as us as bookends.
Dairies of memories with more to be transcribed
I want to smell your hair every morning
Like certain types of hay pre-bloom scythed.
I want to make botanical sketches constantly absorbing.
Something heavenly to see and to touch,
I want to trace your body across star maps
And experience every particle and molecule and vouch
There is nothing in you or our love that ever lacks.
