Meaning

Is this life we live a life forlorn?
Are we all searching for the reason we're born?
Is it you, is it me?
Looking out at that vast sea...
What are we supposed to see?
How can we live without knowing what to be?

We try by looking at stories past
And search behind the shadows we cast
Above our ceiling and below the floor
Is a world we can’t imagine: something more
How can we open the closed door?
To see things no eyes have seen before?

As we go every step we take...
It fills our minds, the things at stake
What awaits us when we wake?
How much pressure before we brake?
The setting moon, the rising sun
A day is over; a new one's begun...

Lives are dispersed, feelings expressed
Prying, pondering, at that locked chess
Going through life, we swerve, we sway
Are we influenced by what others say?
Can we act out without a delay?
Or forever trapped in our thoughts will we stay?

Standing here, i say to you now
I will give you my knowledge, i will vow
To open your mind to the mysteries at hand
To give you the maps to cross the land
To let loose your spirit, give it no command
To give your life images, let it grow and expand

Take what i give you, bare with you no heed
For your journey will be lengthy, costly indeed
And as you wander past that shining sea,
Looking for what you are supposed to see...
Take in and receive life's purpose, then flee
And return to this place and explain it to me...
