Memorial Of Columbine Poem by Justin Gildow

Memorial Of Columbine

As I make my way to the memorial of Columbine
A decade has passed since the tragedy
So God, please grant me strength
Help me through this tonight

After all these years
The news of what happened a decade ago has remained with me
And it still resonates in other people

Tonight
I have my own reasons for being here
Others have their own reasons for being here

After all these years
I see many of the victims families
Either giving hugs or offering handshakes
Some still let their sadness overwhelm them
Driving them to the brink of tears

I'm alone
On my own
And in my right hand is a bouquet of flowers
I untie the bouquet so that the flowers are no longer tied together

Coming to several areas of this place
I take a flower and lay it down for each one of you
Your families, I'm sure miss you
Many others I'm sure miss you as well

After giving each of you a flower
Candles are being pass around for a candlelit vigil

I'm given a candle

After all the candles are lit
We take part in silence
We take part in reflection

Silence cosumes me
But the light from my candle is my friend
