Memories Poem by Bianca Haw

Memories

Howls through the night,
windows frozen with cold.
The wind rattles the trees,
but still she stood firm.
The house was wrenched and rattled,
it shook the earth below.
The memories re-awakened.
What was lost
had found its way back.
Fear gripped her heart.
A sudden explosion far away.
The howls were softened.
Within the slightest of breezes,
she was reminded of her loss.
Nothing was the same,
nothing ever would be,
except the house.

Tall and firm, creaks and groans.
Memories once lost,
now found.
The happy days, now past,
shook the house all night,
rendering her breathless.
She would not forget,
for how could she?
The memories, the fun, the laughter.

The windows gave a final rattle,
goodbye,
then settled.
Everything was gone.
All but the memories,
and the house,
on its own
on the hill
once inhabited with life.
Now alone with its burden,
to carry the memories.
