My Acceptance Speech* Poem by Kat Smith

My Acceptance Speech*

I am not accepting an award
Or an honor
Or the key to my city or yours
I am accepting my fate
I am accepting the fact that I will do anything for you, nothing can will or could change that
And that is what is going to kill me
How funny my loyalty is going to kill me
And I know this way before it dose but as a matter of honor and truthfulness
I will remain on this course to inevitable destruction

So, I am not accepting a noble peace prize
Or a Pulitzer

No

I am accepting an optional fate

Can you take a moment to appreciate?
What I'm doing for you?

Can you take a second?

Can YOU PUT YOUR STOCKHOLM SYNDROME ON PAUSE FOR A LITTLE WHILE

To wrap your beautiful brain around exactly what I'm giving up for you

Because I love you

It's not for me

I don't like weeping at the very sight of you

I'm not doing this for me

I'm doing this for you

Just like I promised when I said ¨I love you¨

And you might not know this
But when you said it back
You promised me just that

Anything and everything

All of it

You basically said you give up for me

But you lied

And I didn't

'cause I love you

Not me
