My Granddaughter Speaks No Language Poem by Hebert Logerie

My Granddaughter Speaks No Language

My granddaughter, CC, who is eleven months old
Can talk. Yes, she can speak, I have been told
But to me, she speaks no particular language
She makes noise, a lot onomatopoeiae at this age
Soon, she will be introduced to English, French
Creole, Spanish, Slang etc. Now, she knows about lunch
About eating, swallowing and spitting food out of her mouth
When her stomach is full. We are waiting for the day, for the month
When she'll utter her first words, names and verbs
When she'll say mama, papa, grandmas and grandpas
When she'll look outside and say flowers, plants and herbs
And when she'll see on the television screen:lions, tigers and lamas
Nowadays, she speaks her own language
She says whatever she wants at this age.
