My Grandpa Poem by Anil Kumar Panda

My Grandpa

Rating: 5.0

I can see him from a distance
Bent at the waist watching my way
Through thick glasses
As he gives a toothless smile
I can see yellowish saliva
Trickled down his bony chin
Leaving traces of tobacco
Across his bony chest
I can see him laughing like a child
With dry cough choking him
Pulling out tears into his eyes
I feel happy when he cries
It is like a game for me
He lifts me up to his shoulders
Not with much difficulty for
His shoulders are near to the ground
He can't hold me long
For coughs make him choke
As we walk towards home
He goes on shouting at my mother
Prince is back
He is hungry
Keep ready milk and food
I can hear him
Long after he passed away
When I get down from the city bus
And watch the dim lights
Hanging from the poles
Like eyes of my grandpa

WOW, dear Tiku, the happiness in your heart is still echoing deep inside. You must have missed your Grandpa a very lot. Such a loving and cared childhood completed by the presence of him, the echoes will remain long after his dicease. This loveliest poem full of gratitude is the proof of that greatest love ever existed between Grandpa and his Prince.
