I bought a hat today
Ready for the Siberian wind
They’ve been promising for a week.
I hate winter
And the cold
And the grey
And the fake Christmas jollity.
Humbug.
My hat is orange,
Bright orange,
A juicy persimmon
On a tree that’s lost its leaves.
The city women wrap up warm
In their fashionable
Grey and black
But I have dreams of summer
In my wonderful
Orange hat.
Ah! Reminds one of Jenny Josephs' poem that engendered the Red Hat Society: When I am Old I Shall Wear Purple Lovely poem. Adeline
Dreaming summer in a hat is wonderful.... A paradox. A simple lovely meaningful poem.
