My Imagination Poem by Luke Bushen

My Imagination

They tried to shut up my imagination inside my head.
'These thoughts you have are rather wild.' 'Be Silent! ' they said.
How dare I ever have a mind or thoughts of my own.
Until I learned to think and act like them I should stay home.
They dress me up in clothes like theirs, my feelings they ignore.
They fence me in, they cage me in, they lock up my mind's door.

They do not understand my mind and it's imagination;
It's need to wander forgotten places, and explore creation.
To ride the cliffs of unknown future, to swim the seas of past;
To touch the stars and see first hand the galaxy so vast.
To paint bright pictures, to sing sweet songs, to soar like birds of the air.
These things are foreign to their minds, their hearts no longer care.

And now the flood that fills my mind cries out, 'Set me free! '
A pencil and a blank piece of paper answers my plea.
Words pour out by the thousands, and fill the empty pages
with rhyming words and the emotions from all life's stages.
The words ride cliffs of unknown future, they swim seas of the past;
They paint bright pictures of the stars, they sing of galaxy's vast.
The words explore places forgotten, they fly the birds' flight.
The words express my imagination, and that is why I write.
