Nature On The Hill Poem by Tirupathi Chandrupatla

Nature On The Hill

Skagway* to White Pass
The Klondike gold rush
The story never ends
Today tourists travel.

Against odds, a team
Of people with foresight
Worked hard to build
The WP&YR** rail road.

As tourists we went by
Bus to Caribou Crossing
On our way back we caught
Train at Fraser to Skagway.

Beauty's stretched around
Clouds dancing on mountains
Cascading waterfalls, lakes
Spread for miles and miles.

Sand spread like dessert
In the lush green cold region
Is a surprising phenomenon
A work of bygone glaciers.

The train journey's parallel
To Skagway river that flows
Deep through the canyon with
Rumbling sounds of the rapids.

Here a brown bear walks
There a mountain goat looks
Lush green foliage grown
Hill side and also downward.

Whole trip is a thrill
Air is cool and chill
Heart's doors open to
Windows of nature on the hill.

* Skagway is a borough in Alaska
** WP&YR - White Pass and Yukon Route rail
road is between Canada and Alaska built
for gold prospectors in 1898.
