Neccesary Evils Poem by Dairedee BurrisLandwehr

Neccesary Evils

On some long stretch of highway
Paved with false hope and dead dreams
I watch headlight beams
In a race
Where there was no beginning
nor will ever be an end.

I get a split second glance
At the driver, by chance
Only a moment before
They vanish in shadows
Chewing up yellow lines
To get there on time
Their journey infinitely more important
Than my own.

My car drinks away
My meager payday
Thirstily sucking black gold
From the jewel studded bottle
Bane of the work forces
It exhausts, my resources.
I rely on its necessary evil
To fuel a greater one...
