Necromancy
- - - - - - - - - - -
When I look back
Wistfully upon days past
I recall an incident
Born out of mere fancy
Fueled by youthful heart
To venture out into wood
Alone in moonlit night
To see fairies and goblins
Supposed to be dwelling in caverns
It was evening
Above brightly shining was the moon
Felt as if tired winds cuddling
The cool breasts of evening
And saw on the grassy surface of wood
Leaning lengthening shadows of trees
And the moon scampering in and out
Of boughs swaying in the breeze like a child
I knew I was alone
The slightest fluttering sound of leaves
Sent chill to my bone
Then I saw out of blue an eagle circling skyward
Might be a spirit, witch or wizard
Good or evil at this moment of time was wandering
Thought I as I was walking along
Then out upon the wood
A ghostly looking man from pine
Masked and strange-footed
Silent, sinuous and bent
Came forward and almost me scared
I screamed aloud and asked
The fairy good or bad be kind enough
To enlighten me with knowledge and wisdom
Then he disappeared only to appear again
Not as a fairy but as my friend not unknown
'How come you got me here I asked
I followed you in disguise unto wood
And when I saw you alone, you I scared
But my friend, I think there is necromancy still
Said he if you wait until midnight
You may encounter one with a chill'
And the moon scampering in and out Of boughs swaying in the breeze like a child. The poem is laced with many majestic lines like the one above. A beautiful poem.
A story of absorbing interest, beautifully told! The frightening experience in the stillness of the night in the woods is enough to send chills down the spine of even a brave man! Enjoyed the anti climax much!
A beautiful description of a childhood innocence........................10
