No Matter The Size Of The Mansion Poem by Paula Glynn

No Matter The Size Of The Mansion

No matter the size of the mansion,
You can't run away from yourself,
You can't escape your psychology,
Your past, your pain,
No matter people driving you insane,

For it is a complex life,
And money seems to make life easier,
But living in a bigger home,
Does not make life easier,
It does not ease your pain,

You can go to pubs and clubs,
At night; even have many lovers,
But when they are gone,
What are you left with?
A room full of devil faces,
All wanting what you have,

For they believe your money,
Makes you free,
That because you don't,
Work in their factory,
That you can have all you see,
But money can mean paying a fee;

This fee being loneliness,
Isolation and a painful independence,
Unless you've got nerves of steel,
Your money people will steal,
Or at least try to,
And if they can't, you will pay,
For daring being happy,
For having your successful day,

But life goes on,
Their pain not worth your gain,
No matter those bitter memories,
For jealousy can destroy,
Even those you employ,
In your office and factories,

For money was believed,
To be the root of all evil,
But evil starts in the soul,
And it is only when we learn,
We carry on with life,
We push forward,
Leaving those jealous,
To stew with their bitterness,

For they believe,
The bigger the mansion,
The greater the happiness,
But they are wrong,
Because everyone belongs,
To care about the person on the street,
To care for our brothers and sisters,

And even today,
I look at my large home,
I know I have much to offer,
I know my heart is free,
To love my family,
For no matter the size of the mansion,
It is our family that gives us happiness,
And our friends that save our lives,
In this harsh, big wide world.
