Not My Time Yet Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Not My Time Yet

Rating: 5.0

Catching my breath
between life and possible death
I did not shout
I did not cry
I did not ask why
my last thought
was to think
an overriding sense that I was somehow on the brink
I had to solve a problem as quick as a wink
that's all I could think
I had the muscle to hold up a house
I put my shoulder and legs into it
quiet as a mouse
And though I did not have time to pray
I know God helped me in some way
and helped me to hold up the weight
when time was at hand and it couldn't wait
and then like magic
came a simple solution
simple and profound
a saw and a sturdy timber
and the fact that I was strong enough and equally limber
prevented the roof from falling down around
I kept working and didn't make a sound
but when the scare was over I said a word of thanks
for sharp saws, sharp thinking, providence and sturdy planks
I guess it wasn't yet my time to go
If it was I think I'd know
Think today I'll take things a little easy and a little slow
That was a little wake up call...
HELLO! !
