Nowadays Poem by RUPA CHAKRAVARTI

Nowadays

Rush, to ensure that I am first,
Swift, to reassure that I'm not last,
Run, to touch the finish line,
Fly, to remain unentwined..
Frenzy, of the need for 'I',
Desire, of the coveted eye,
Crazed, to be the very best,
Dazed, by the power and the zest.
When, tired of the watchful eye,
When, slothful of the need for 'I',
When, all things equal beckon a sigh,
I stop and pay heed to the real 'I'.

Not dazzle, but dusk in muted shades,
Not glare, but moonlight on hazy glades,
Not rush, but time in seductive motion, ,
Not craze, but sighs of sweet devotion.
'Nowadays', diffuses and stands anew,
Bathed in serenity, anxiety adieu,
'Nowadays', assumes the middle path,
Gentle, benevolent, without the wrath.
Decades of confusion defines the'I',
Deliberate ignorance corrodes the eye,
Destination unknown clouds the eye,
Descent of the 'I' obliterates the 'I'.

Today and nowadays, enmeshed as one,
To glean the best and stall the run,
To inhale the plentitude and celebrate time,
To exhale the frenzy and reflect awhile.
Time is of essence, to rejoice the time,
Moments asunder to ascertain the rhyme,
Yesterday, today, tomorrow alike,
Enlightened in glorious harmony chime.
Now is the moment, the moment is now,
Gone is the conflict of why and how,
Fled is the need to be first in line,
Nowadays I know, Thy vision is mine,
Nowadays...
