Nukes And Terrors Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Nukes And Terrors

The president of our brotherly nation
tries to strike terror in us
crying ‘nukes will hit our cities
if his country’s borders are crossed’.
We are not dribbling with nukes as he does
and our people aren’t lying on flower-beds
to have any fears for losing life
when bombs are rained on us.
In public offices shells of bribes burst daily
and the people have no place to cower.
Officers shoot those under with threats
and ‘Mementos galore’ in meetings.
Lives of workers are blown up
being driven out every three years.
Women crawl off the line of control
to garner some notes to feed their dependents.
The youths roam with guns
swearing for another freedom
but lob they bombs on the harmless.
Many a family plunge in flames
and swallow poisoned food
groaning under the weight of debts!
The public servants can’t let the cat out of the bag
as the laws scare them and the court bars them.
Honesty sleeps and snores on the filth
in the trenches of politics.
People are stabbed in the back
with fraud in business and banks new.
They have no strength to retaliate
as the powers are in the gloves of traders.
Let him hurl nukes anywhere.
They may not be worse than what we have.
Missiles with warheads are not harsher
than the shameless brutes in every walk of life.
When people bury themselves in penury
he bedecks the thoughts of war with glory.
What good fate has in store for the poor?
The general should set up mines
under the primitive cults of religions
to blow up and for love to burgeon
in the minds of all to live in peace.
