O Sister Poem by Eli Spivakovsky

O Sister

5 sisters
gone
in 2 weeks

How I love you Samara
We are Art friends
Dorothea has a secret
she's wearing a mask
a petaled face
sepals in her hair
a virgin painting
he deflowers her with His eyes

Sister O sister

There I wasn't
I didn't come to the funeral
I couldn't stand it
to see the beautiful one laid out on a table
Angel-hair
whispering smile
wooden-bird eyes
Gone from them

Sister O sister

I remember you
asking about Hiroshima
Your mother said it stopped the War
but yours had just begun
recalling you
just one day spent together
and a girl busking
'a Courtney Love when she grows up'
when Kurt was still alive

O sister
Mum killed you
It was an accident
a young girl crosses the road
too many autos
a bus
a school trip
bang! She's dead!

O sister
I went
I cried when your Grandmother called out
started the sobbing
And we wailed for you in our hearts

Sister O sister

The wooden-owl has a doppleganger
Little Claire
O so sweet
chasing fish with you in Hawaii
then checking your fingers for ink
Wading in the warmth of the waves
until Dad picks us up with good, strong arms

O sister
the men have warned you
and she still lies on a table
punishment for blood

O sisters
how I miss you
how I miss
how I sister you
how I
sister
O
It's going away...
