Occasionally Broken Poem by Mark Heathcote

Occasionally Broken

With an unsupportive family
and fewer and fewer friends
I've been strong and occasionally broken
I've been brave and I've been fearless
I've been lost and directionless
I've been waiting for an end
ever since the beginning
looking for a reason to continue or not
there is always a knife twisted into my guts
it feels like I am always at war
wondering what it is all for
is there even a soul in here worth fighting for?
And as each day begins and ends
I've said amen, amen!
My question is there even a fifth
of my heart left still fighting for life
reaching for all those distant stars.
Lord, knows I want to plot a new course
And reach a righteous end.
