Ode To Calicoflower Poem by Norm Milstein

Ode To Calicoflower

Beside the freeway's noisy bellow,
We did meet a merry fellow.
A purple bloom with a golden throat,
On calicoflower we did dote.

A host of these entrancing pixies
Were gathered there below the road.
By some entrancing quirk of chance
We spotted them in their abode.

Such a flower, calicoflower,
We had to stop and wonder,
There within your hidden realm
Beneath the freeway's thunder.

Oh soulful soul of vernal pools,
Flash of Spring and wanderer's jewel,
In other Springs we hope that you'll
Be there for other wanderers too.

Calicoflower, down in the wet,
In fifty years we won't forget.
You teach us little whirligig:
A little joy may be quite big.

And so when walking have an eye
For little flowers' graces.
We're lifted up by looking down
At gems in soggy places.
