'Offended' Poem by Linda Winchell

'Offended'

Why would you be offended?
By something that I said?
I was saying that I needed a friend,
What's the matter with your head?

Now if you were a friend of mine,
Those words would not sting you so.
For you would already, if a friend you were,
Would be a friend of mine to know?

Have you ever called me up?
Ever asked me over for tea?
Have you ever taken the time?
To know that special part of me?

If you had then when I stood,
Asking for a lady friend to have.
You wouldn't have gotten so offended,
You wouldn't have gotten so mad!

A friend comes in your life,
When all others are going out!
So please forget what we really hadn't,
Your offended friendship part of doubt.
