Old Jake Poem by Francis Duggan

Old Jake

Old Jake can lay claim to the tag of the true evergreen
So much of the great World we live in he has seen
Unmarried he fathered a daughter who has children to him she does not live anywhere near
One he has not seen for well over a year,
One who has seen much of the big World out there
With great stories to tell of his travels elsewhere
One well might say he is a well travelled man
He has been to China, India and Japan
Though born and raised in Australia he says the World is his home
He has been to Paris and London and Rome
To Moscow and Montreal, Baghdad and Berlin
And Rio, New York and Capetown are Cities he has lived in
He has travelled by boat on the Amazon the great South American waterway
And though in his early seventies the lust of the wander is in him today.
