On My Knees... Poem by Jayson Howard

On My Knees...

I can’t take it back,
no, can’t change thing.
So every night when I go home,
I sing.

It’s been so lonely,
you know that though.
Every night when you go home,
it shows.

The days drag on, the nights are long.
Tears roll, our cups are full,
when do we stop?
I could be on my knees, begging you please,
turn back time, we’ll fall in line,
but that’s not how it should be.

We talk and we talk,
it seems to get us far.
No more crying alone,
in the dark.

Times aren’t changing fast,
but we go with them.
And no more thinking of what,
should have been.

Because the days drag on, and the nights are long.
Voices fade, darkness slips away,
we got it to stop.
And now I’m not on my knees, begging you please,
to turn back time, or fall in line,
because it’s not how it should be.

The days can drag on,
for as long as they want,
but I’ll make it through.
And even when the nights are long,
when it’s end comes along,
so will you.

Tears roll, our cups are full.
Voices fade, darkness slips away.
I could be on my knees,
but that’s not how it should be.
