Opening Eye Days Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Opening Eye Days

Only the ones who have been awake.
Reluctantly admit,
To enjoy these opening eye days.
As others too are beginning to see.
With a freeing themselves,
From a deep sleep of disbeliefs.
Observing as they witness those,
Who have sold their souls to slither low.
And prepared to venomize and bite like snakes.
Regardless who they poison.
Or whatever it takes.
If the doing prevents a stopping.
A profit from it to make.
Or an Attention to get becomes threatened.
By a narcissistic ego,
Wishing it to be fed on a daily basis.
Even if this should be understood to mean,
Sucking the blood of those brain dead.

Only the ones who have remained awakened.
Can appreciate these opening eye days.
And if they had at one time been accused,
Of being disgruntled.
While their integrity had blatantly,
Suffered through being abused.
Or...
Accepting to slither low to backbite and poison.
This they refused and did not do.
Just to make a profit from it.
Like the many who disbelieved,
The selling of their souls...
Was the ultimate price to pay.
To eventually discover,
They had been betrayed.
With no other way,
But to see it to believe.
Without a word heard from anyone to say.
