Opportunity To Rehearse First Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Opportunity To Rehearse First

There has to be many these days,
Living in mental turbulence.
Tormented by decisions made.
Wishing they had been given,
The opportunity...
To rehearse their lives first.
Before accepting to be born,
Into a 'reality' without knowing...
What exactly to expect.
And told there would be tests,
Challenging to upset their consciousness.
But 'No'!
No one had been told...
The experience would be exhilarating.
Beyond belief.

There has to be many these days,
Saying to themselves...
"God? Why me?
I did not sign up for this performance.
Unprepared to endure torment.
I expected to be,
One of Your favorite characters.
One selected...
To be one of the best,
Of Your creations yet."
But 'No'!
No one had been told...
The experience would be exhilarating.
With ups and downs.
And valleys to find darkened at times.
Without Sun to shine.
Until mountains are climbed.

There has to be...
Many these days feeling tricked.
Feeling their lives have been deceived.
And others they thought,
Would be cast forever in supporting roles.
Are the very ones God picked and chose,
To observe those given the spotlight.
For the purpose to teach,
What not to do to be made fools.
Doing things only fools choose to do.

"This attention I am getting.
Is more embarrassing than I wanted.
Or expected my life to be."

-Your confession made to me,
Maybe better received by the audience.
I am learning too much from you.
By all means,
Continue your performance.
I am sure what you've done,
Has left some sitting more than stunned.
Your presentation is...
Unique! -
