Osmanthus Poem by Cigeng Zhang

Osmanthus

Rating: 5.0

The window opened to the bright moon
Sweet scented osmanthus nodded to the wind
The wind outside curiously asked -
Why the osmanthus flowered in winter
Osmanthus did not give an answer
Lifting up brows, beaming on the moon
Fragrant air spread as if returning to August
Turning back, the wind, caught by the deep scent

This is a lovely poem in part because Osmanthus is a lovely flower which is acting in a lovely manner. Loveliness in both appearance and behavior - that SHOULD be true of human beings too. I like the shyness of osmanthus, but also its boldness in sharing immediately its scent. Your poem is also a celebration of non-verbal communication. Osmanthus communicates via its fragrance which the wind will carry to sweeten the rest of the world.
