Our Inescapable Fate Poem by Madison Hinze

Our Inescapable Fate

When I see you with him
Every muscle in my body turns limp
My stomach, my lips tighten
I'm breaking, I'm frightened.

My inescapable fate of losing you
You promised it'd never come true
It is so close I can taste it
Your promise will soon be wasted.

I can see it in your eyes
This shouldn't come as any surprise
The way you touch me isn't the same
I begin to be overwhelmed with shame.

Today, you told me it was over
How could such potential be thrown away?
Our love burned such a bright color,
But colors eventually turn into shades of gray.
