Our Song, Our Time Poem by Alyssa Wanii

Our Song, Our Time

It’s the last day of school.
We stay in our homerooms...
There’s...
laughter
talking
tears
smiles
hugs
and
waves “good-bye”.
I’m blinded by the flashes of the cameras, capturing every poise someone makes, capturing the moments.
I become deaf to the sound of scribbleing pens and pencils, writing down phone numbers, last minute summer plans, e-mail addresses, AIM screennames, etc.
The final bell rings.
We all file out of our homerooms and make our ways to our parents’ cars.
When the final assembly for the school year is over parents and kids make their ways to the parking lot.
My ears ring to all the chatter, laughing, screaming, crying, yelling and more.
I walk out of the building blinded by the afternoon sun.
As I start to look around I notice the actions of my peers.
They...
jump
dance
run
walk
wave
hug
skip
and more.
It’s as if they’re all listening to music that only they can hear. Realizing this I start to hear something...
The start of my summer song...
It was a mash of...
Our Time Now-Plain White T’s
All American Girl-Carrie Underwood
Black Roses Red- Alana Grace
Before He Cheats-Carrie Underwood
Low-Flo Rida (T-Pain)
He Said She Said-Ashley Tisdale
Stranger-Hilary Duff
One Step At a Time-Jordin Sparks
Love Song-Sara Bareilles
and more.
It was like my whole I-Pod in my head.
No one else could hear it.
It was all mine.
My Song...
Our Songs...
Our Time...
Summer Time!
Love, friendships, adventures, heartbreaks, and more.
