Out Tale Poem by Babalola Augustine Adeola

Out Tale

'Ajagun' my brother,
A journey bids me come
And I must heed.
Take, hold and keep safe till my return
For the journey may take moons.
And my shadow fades.

As my shadow fades,
Brother unveil his mask.
Feasted on our homes.
Raped our brothers;
Defiled our mothers;
Sold our sisters.
Ah 'Ajagun'

The moon came,
And the moon left.
And the moon after the moons
And the day came,
And my shadow appears.

I wept,
We wept,
They wept until the oceans in their skull dried up.
But the tale continued.

Another journey beckoned.
So, I beckoned 'Alagbada'
Please take, keep safe,
For a journey calls and I must heed.
And my shadow fades

Brother worked hard with no evidence
Brother sow fields,
But the barns are still empty.
Brother harvested crops,
But they were never eaten.

The moon came,
And the moon left.
And the moon after the moons
And the day came,
And my shadow appeared.

Brother threw a feast,
Everyone wore new clothes.
But their faces cannot hold their pains.
Ah brother!
You speak two languages from your lips.
Why did you build your house in aonther's land?
why did you not marry from our clan? '
But the tale must continue.

The moon came,
And the moon left.
And the moon after the moons
And the day came,
Another journey beckon
And I must yield.
But before my shadow disappears,

They must choose this time
That their voice may bond.
Many choose 'Alagbada'
Many 'Ajagun'
Only few 'Alawiye'

Ah! Brothers but why?
They blab,
Have you forgotten?
They started a fight.
So I decided to check their pockets.
And I realise it was the cowries that is at work.

Hmmm...
But this tale will continue...
