Over The Top Ole Zachery Jones & Shell Shock Poem by Nigel Cutter

Over The Top Ole Zachery Jones & Shell Shock

SHOCKED FROM THE SHELLS AS THE WHISTLES BLEW
OVER THE TOP THE SURVIVORS WERE FEW
GASSED BY THEIR OWN AND SHOT BY THEIR BROTHERS
MISSED BY THE CHILDREN AND MOURNED BY THEIR MOTHERS
SHOCKED FROM THE SHELLS AS THE WHISTLES BLEW
MISSED BY THE CHILDREN AND MOURNED BY THEIR MOTHERS
SHOCKED FROM THE SHELLS AS THE WHISTLES BLEW

Zachery aged man yes you know who I mean
war hero medal man sold matches in the town
Zachery ardent fan was just part of the plan
called to fight went there alright
the guns were ringing out

were you lost in a war
in fields of blood and gore
wasn't you who lost his mind
was the world with all its force
wasn't you who was crazy was the world you didn't owe
was it you the blooded hero
was he and he alone
he ole Zachery Jones
Zachery Jones

Was no fuss was his trust
out of place out of time
lost in space cadet my friend
oh Zachery we should be proud
Zachery ailing man
yes you know that you can
win a prize regain your life
and smile again my friend

Zachery Fading man
was just one who took a chance
solid man nice fellow
where did he go
Ole Zachery flittered out
written on his epitaph
Bravest man I ever knew
the guns lay silent there
