The Promise Ring Poem by Nigel Cutter

The Promise Ring

we were supposed to be
we were young and free
but it didnt work out that way
some one got in our way

if it wasnt for a lie
a most distinct a deepest lie
i have the lock and key
first ever flower you bought me

it was lies that forced the break
it was lies that forged the way
it was lies that broke our thing
but i still have the promise ring

hidden in the smallest chest
i care nothing for the rest
that little box a love that past
a stupid lie the die was cast

we would meet just once a year
but everytime i'd shed a tear
you'd say remember the blue rodeo
and i'd say time to go

it was lies that forced the break
it was lies that forged the way
it was lies that broke our thing
but i still have the promise ring
