Part B Of September 2017's Showcase.. [ P H Poet Poems; ‘partial Links' To All Poem Pages; Texts Or Partial Texts Of Offered Poems & Maybe Of Borrowed Poems] Poem by Bri Edwards

Part B Of September 2017's Showcase.. [ P H Poet Poems; ‘partial Links' To All Poem Pages; Texts Or Partial Texts Of Offered Poems & Maybe Of Borrowed Poems]

In Part A were poems by Nate T., and M.J. Lemon,
'down-under-Doug', and Savita (one for the women) ,
E. Levich, and someone named ‘L. Tooth',
Rod from Costa Rica, & J. Westlake, in truth,
Valsa George (twice) {she twisted my arm},
and Nayak, B. (twice) , who caused me NO harm,
and, 'Last But NOT Least', a ‘newcomer' with flare,
whose name just happens to be ….Mr. Denis Mair!

Now I'll embark on Part B, and once again I'll NOT have a poem aboard,
except this intro-poem; it is, alas, all that I, Bri, for now can afford.
If you've tried to use 'links' to find poems and failed, keep on trying.
You must be careful to copy accurately, when the links you are plying.

All the poems in Part A were 'offered' to me; I'd no need to steal any.
And I took no bribes to accept any of them. I took not even a penny!
OK! From Valsa I got her grandma's mango curry recipe. Yum yum!
And a coupon from Bharati good for one back rub; I'm not totally ‘dumb'!

If I have more 'offered' in September, I'll do what I can to use them well.
The ones 'borrowed', not 'offered', I'll use to help the showcase swell;
I mean be more full ……of fun, wisdom, information, and whatnot, you know?
So, I hope I get a few readers who have time and eyes to enjoy THIS poem 'show'.

(September 3rd 2017)
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

In my Poet's Notes to this showcase and/OR in a poem comment left by me
on the showcase's page, I plan to explain how to form the ‘complete link' to each ‘
poem's page on PH, making use of the ‘partial link' I shall supply for each poem.

PoemHunter does NOT allow me to place a complete link into a POEM. And this 'showcase' IS, to PH, one very large ‘poem'.

When you put the complete link for a poem's page into the 'address line' on your 'computer', BE SURE it STARTS WITH w w w and includes the partial link which I think is accurately supplied by me for each poem. I HAD SOME TROUBLE copying and pasting the complete link today into my address line because PH put something (a number) in front of w w w. I had to delete the number. Then it went smoothly. AND DON'T put spaces between the w's as I was forced to do by PH now.

Below you will find a list of the AUTHORS represented in this Part B.
THEN you will find a list of the poems in Part 'B', with the authors' names, 'offered' or 'borrowed', the ‘partial link' to find each poem's page on PH, any listed topic(s) , AND…

1 - the TEXT for an 'OFFERED' poem which is not-much-longer than 25 lines (at my discretion) . OR …
2 - for 'OFFERED' poems longer than in #1 (above) , AND for 'BORROWED' [not-offered] poems I shall put the first stanza (or equivalent, at my discretion) ,
and you can use the link or other method to find the poem on PH. :)

=================================================

The rest of Part B has to be constructed 'in due time'.

Thanks for your patience while ‘construction' is in progress! !

There may or may not be a Part C this month.

:)

POEMS:

1 - Andy Brookes, the author; 'offered'; partial link: /poem/broken-voice-2/

; topic: death

Broken Voice - by Andy Brookes

I am stopped.
a harsh light examines my existence

Silenced literally, vocal chords stilled.
A nodule the doctors says,
removal necessary.
I freeze, thoughts elliptical,
returning full stops

I am phoned results, not good.
my voice returns, it is not mine
a creaking gate, cracking like an adolescent.

Another op to remove some vocal chord.
cancer well yes and no, precancerous I'm told.
Sitting mute, waves echo in my head.
silenced I reenter my inner self with
reflections of mortality
death laughs hollow. saying 'got you.'

So now I whisper, croak.
a frog prince sitting on my lily pad alone, in the centre of the pond,
with only my refection and the ripples of time for company

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Bri's note: Andy is one of my FAVORITE people on PH.
I shall miss him if he 'goes' before I do. But his poems shall live on! And maybe I'll read more of them!

2 - Kim Barney, the author; THREE poems, ALL 'borrowed'

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

#1 - partial link: /poem/old-age-58/; topics: age, aging, life

Old Age - by Kim Barney

Old Age keeps knocking at my door
But I try not to let him in.
I'm not young like I was before;
One day I'll lose and he will win.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

#2 - partial link: /poem/old-bob-3/

; topics: food, human condition, humor, humorous, humour, life, sex, age, aging

Old Bob - by Kim Barney

Hardly a man is still alive
Who's reached the age of ninety-five.
Old Bob did, and to celebrate
He went to a hotel, first-rate.
In the restaurant he did dine
And with his meal he had fine wine.
Then to his room to sleep he went
Without knowing his friends had sent
A call girl there as a surprise;
Old Bob could not believe his eyes.
Poor girl thought him a nincompoop,
Not subject to her hex.
When she said 'I'll give you super sex, '
He said, 'I'll take the soup.'

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

#3 - partial link: /poem/daybreak-at-poison-hollow/

; topics: animals, nature

Daybreak At Poison Hollow [just the first two stanzas here] - by Kim Barney

The squirrels still are silent,
but won't be quiet long.
The Steller's Jay that haunts these woods
has not yet sung his song.

The hunter waits behind a log
just listening to hear
a snap, a crunch, a subtle sound
that might reveal a deer.

3 - Tom Billsborough, the author; TWO poems; BOTH 'borrowed'

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

#1 - partial link: /poem/sparrows-10/; topic: birds

Sparrows - by Tom Billsborough

My garden was our playground,
Mine and the cat's too.
Now the sparrows own it,
That noisy little crew!
They charge across the lawns
Like kids just out of school
They buzz around in gangs
As silly schoolboys do.
Suddenly a pile of seeds
One sparrow might espy
And suddenly his mates
Rush over full of joy
And an awful lot of squawking
Rends the ruddy air
As if a shiny toy
Had suddenly appeared.
Old Woodie is alerted
By all these fun and games
A very plump wood pidgeon
Who so sedately roams
With slow and ponderous steps
Between the milling crowds
As though he were their master
Benignly looking on.
His wings are folded back
As he stoops to pick up seeds.
The little sparrows know he's there
But pay him little heed
As there's nothing there to fear.
He's just old Woodie, Wood-pidgeon
Like a master you hold dear!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

#2 - partial link: /poem/reflections-in-a-mirror-2/; topic: poems

Reflections In A Mirror - by Tom Billsborough

Hardly one song survives my cold embrace.
I am my mirror which studies every flaw,
Each superfluous line, the ponderous flesh,
Needing to be excised.
As if my mirror opposite should wish to airbrush out
The smooth momentum from my music.
Oh, how I hate my Torquemada self
That tortures me as I compose my verse,
Reducing me to be a stuttering wreck,
And thus withhold the truth
Of what I feel and which my images express!

===========================================================

4 - Elisabeth Anne Wingle, the author; TWO poems, BOTH 'borrowed'

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

#1 - partial link: /poem/once-a-day-3/; topic: longing, love

Once A Day - by Elisabeth Anne Wingle

A simple gesture is all I need,
once a day
A secret look, a loving glance,
Eyes that swell with pride
Once a day.
A smile meant for me alone
Accompanied by a wink
Once a day
Gently touch my hair, my face
Or take my hands in yours
Once a day
Let me feel the love I know is there
A simple gesture is all I need once day

(4-20-86)

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

#2 - partial link: /poem/just-friends-82/; topic: love

Just Friends - by Elisabeth Anne Wingle

Now he says 'We'll just be friends.'
I know I'll never see him again
Not the way it used to be
When I loved him and he loved me

We could speak without talking
When his eyes meet mine
We could travel without walking
Into a future time

Our future was to be. A fantasy life
He as my husband, and I as his wife
We 'd have every thing we wanted,
And good times to spare.
But I can't see it now,
It just isn't there

Right now I hurt,
I hurt real bad
And if I try hard enough
Sometimes I get mad
I just can't figure it out
Why it always must end
And why they must leave you with
We can still be friends

5 - Savita Tyagi, the author; THREE poems, ALL 'borrowed'

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

#1 - partial link: /poem/it-s-not-easy-but/

; topic: none given (poem submitted to PH before topics were a requirement on PH)

It's Not Easy But….. - by Savita Tyagi

When mind is uneasy and arduous are life's undertakings
Repose your mind at Lord's feet
Lodge yourself at the great door
The door that opens for all.
If the direction of life is shrouded in ambiguity
Trust your heart's calling to open a venue
Your own calm self, the tranquil Nature or the inspiration cast upon
All are His guide to walk you through rough trails.
Dwell not in your worries and anxieties
Make your pain and pleasure an offering
Know them as twins born out of Mother Nature's womb
As a serene indweller supreme self transcends it all
The luminous all pervading energy
The eternal free spirit high above this mortal existence.
Enjoy your experiences
With out the great burden of doer ship
If you are able to do it peace shall follow.
If wandering and unsteady mind takes your determination away
Like the wind takes trembling leaves
Make yourself resolute in will with patience
Failing again and again yet doing what needs to be done
Perfection comes with practice and dedication
Put your thoughts to work and enjoy the process.
Like all pervading ether holds clouds and lightening
Embrace your triumphs and failures
Peace shall follow if one can keep the likings and disliking at bay
And repose in joys of working.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

#2 - partial link: /poem/senryu-10-3/; topic: fathers, love

Senryu 10 - by Savita Tyagi

Loving and caring
A strong shoulder to lean on
That's what fathers are.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

#3 - partial link: /poem/greed-limerick/; topic: humor

Greed (Limerick) - by Savita Tyagi

Early bird gets the worm
In her greed eats too much
Gets indigestion
Falls flat on stomach
Stamped on by late comers!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Bri's note: I 'love' what the poem says, but I don't believe it follows the rhyming tradition of a limerick. Could I be wrong? As far as I've heard, a 'limerick' has a certain rhyme scheme to be followed (plus other usual attributes!) .

'Limerick (poetry)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A limerick is a form of poetry in five-line, predominantly anapestic[1] meter with a strict rhyme scheme (AABBA) , often humorous and sometimes obscene.[2] The third and fourth lines are shorter than the other three.

WILL THERE BE A SIXTH,6th, poet in this Part B? ? ? ? ? ?

My Answer: YES!

Do YOU have an 'offering'? ?

6- Laurie Van der Hart, the author; TWO poems, BOTH 'borrowed'

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

#1 - partial link: /poem/no-mercy-6/; topics: driving, police

No Mercy - by Laurie Van der Hart

Our first scenic drive in Mallorca
From Palma to Old Valldemossa
We drove past our exit
And u-turned to fix it
And went home a hundred quid lesser!

O Sóller, Sóller, Sóller, Sóller!

We'll remember the town of Sóller
And not for its pretty town square
But for cops with no compassion
For mistaken navigation
No more will we ever go there!
Laurie Van der Hart

#2 - partial link: /poem/so-long-tom/; topics: driving, fun, humour

[As the poem is a bit longer than I wish to put into a showcase, here is the beginning of it. Please use the partial link, above, and make the complete
link as explained in my Poet's Notes to this Part B.]

So Long, Tom! - by Laurie Van der Hart

I planned to write an epitaph:

My trusty guide for countless miles,
Who filled my life with smiles -
Here lies Tom, the GPS,
Finally come to his rest
At the chequered flag, a standing ovation,
Tom-tom, bom-bom, you've reached your final destination

Something like that
Or a dirge over my great loss:

7- Simone Inez Harriman, the author; TWO poems, BOTH 'borrowed'

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
#1 - partial link: /poem/formless-and-fearless/; topics: death, spirit

Formless And Fearless - by Simone Inez Harriman

Mortally wounded
I die seeking
My warrior spirit guide
Who refuses to come

I enter the valley of shadows
In full battle cry
Armed with self righteous regalia
To defend my misdemeanors

I meet my mirror demons
As they capture me by my conscience
They gorge on my cancer
Stripping my angry spirit
Revealing the fighting child

Spiraling in the white light
The peaceful spirit evolves me
My hurtful self forgives me
Healing the frightened child

Formless and fearless now
Caressed and cocooned
In the maternal womb
My torn soul mends

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
#2 - partial link: /poem/heartless/; topic: apathy

Heartless -by Simone Inez Harriman

If I chose to be loveless
Like you
I would seal my severed heart
In your stone mausoleum
Concealing
All signs of lovingness
Thus isolated
Quivering on a cold slab
My heart would bleed heavily
Congealing
Hardening
And I would limp
Past your indifference
Devoid of caring and feeling
Away from your apathy and cruelty
Completely heartless
Quite at home
In your barren desert
Of selfishness

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Bri's note: As I said in my comment on the poem's page, 'WOW'!
BUT, 'you know', a desert can be desolate (looking at least) much
of the year, but spring into beautiful 'blooms' when rain is applied.
Did you try using 'rain'? ?

=====================================================

8- Akhtar Jawad, the author; 'borrowed'; partial link: /poem/a-stripetease/;

topic: rainy season

A Stripetease - by Akhtar Jawad

The daughter of ocean is now in her teens,
On the top of a tree I see her preens,
Sweetheart, nature has taught you to fly,
Spread your wings, for the naughty sky,
Why don't you fly, I know you can fly?
High with the winds in the endless sky,
Take off sweetheart for the flight of love,
Don't know the way; you may follow a dove,
Learn the art of lightning from the sun and stars,
Touch hidden strings within you are guitars,
Thundering, showering fall on the towers,
Kiss the rainbow show of the nudist flowers,
Touch them and feel the aroma of God,
No more refrains, I now want a nod,
The roof of trees and the roots of plants,
Everyone is waiting for your showering grants,
Have sex with apex of the high mountains,
That is direly needed by the dry fountains,
Play this game with the green forest,
Come from the east, come from the west,
A hug will cool down the heated sky,
Now is the time, now you must fly,
Have a peg of wine, will you please,
The earth is ready for a Stripetease.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Bri's note: Maybe Akhtar is TEASING me with his ('incorrect')
spelling of 'striptease'? ? ? Or is it a 'British Spelling'? ?

============================================================

9- Elisabeth Anne Wingle, the author; partial link: /poem/buttercup-11/ ; topic: flowers

Buttercup - by Elisabeth Anne Wingle

My father was always quick with a smile.
His happiness came from within.
Often he'd pluck, sweet buttercup
And hold it under my chin.
' Do you like butter? He'd say to me?
With a twinkle in his eye!
I would look down and kick the ground,
For I was rather shy.
Then from under my skin,
I would feel it begin.
A warm glow spreading,
From under my chin!
YES! I like butter! !

[I think if I DO NOT get more 'offered' poems in the next week or so, I'll close the door to more poems in September's showcase. No Part C is planned. I'm not going to have so much time in the future to put together 'long', two-part showcases.

I WON'T HAVE THE COMPUTER TIME FOR ONE THING. Plus, I need MORE TIME to eat ice cream. There are still 253 flavors I haven't tried. And that's just in the United States! ! !

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
my/our showcases have been evolving over more than two years. my thanks go especially to all (the 'few' perhaps?) who have not only read at least some of the poems, but have also left comments for me or other authors on the showcase pages or on the poets' poem pages or in messages sent to poets.

AND, of course my very special thanks to those poets who have 'offered' poems or let me 'borrow' them without complaining, and those readers who have commented (perhaps even giving me 'advice') on the showcase as a whole.

Thank you!

Oh! the 'link thing'. To construct the full link in order to reach a poem page, PUT:

w w w. poem hunter.com

.....[[WITHOUT ANY OF THE SPACES I PUT between the letters or words]]..

...IN FRONT OF the 'partial link' and then stick the whole thing into the address line below the tabs on your screen. at least that is what i do on this PC. DON'T forget the 'dots' after the third 'w' and after 'hunter'! ! ! there will be NOTHING, EXCEPT BLANK SPACE, in front of the w w w! ! ! DON'T put spaces between the w's, as i was forced to do by PH now.

*****If you care to 'offer' a poem for use in a showcase, please, pleaSE, PLEASE! ! ! ! be sure the poem is in the form you wish it to be presented. I no longer plan to concern myself if a poem has typos or misspellings, etc., though IF i find something 'bad enough' I will probably make a 'Bri's Note' about it after the poem listing! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
