People Here From Many Nations Poem by Francis Duggan

People Here From Many Nations

All of the different shades of colours black, red, yellow, green and brown
Of the streamers and the balloons tied to posts in Melbourne Town
Garden city of Victoria of the southern hemisphere
And it coming up to Christmas a delightful time of year.

And the Melbourne girls look lovely with the sunlight on their hair
In this multicultural City people here from every where,
People of all shades and races and from Countries far and near
In the mood for fun and music in beer gardens drinking beer.

Here I'm not the only migrant I too from a distant place
Though the mix of many cultures I wholeheartedly embrace
In the sunshine in Fitzroy Gardens the kin and families meet
And the music of many Nations can be heard along the street.

People here from many Countries some arrived as refugees
In small boats escaping war lords across the dangerous seas
They have found a safer haven though their hardships have been great
And freedom from want and harassment they feel happy to celebrate

It's our differences make us interesting some have been known to say
And people here from many Nations and Countries far away
In the sunshine of Fitzroy Gardens basking in the southern clime
And such meeting places of many cultures have inspired the bards to rhyme.
