Peter Gzowski - Canadian Radio History Poem by Nick krakana

Peter Gzowski - Canadian Radio History

The thing
 my older sister Elizabeth
 shared with me

Was the art of
 listening to Peter Gzowski
The loosest of ends
he tied up you see

From behind his mike
 at the CBC

Canadian history was taught
and made there

From his beloved Toffino
we'd hear him out there

With Coffee and cigarets a comfortable chair

Leaning into his mike over the air

True Canadiana was Peters fair

Just close your eyes he'd take you there

Alone sits the senior
 a horse sense i feel

From this man on the radio

The only good company to reel

I dont know if there will ever be

Another like minded Peter Gzowski

Natural like a honey bee
From coast to coast
He enriched this country

From behind the mike at the CBC

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I dedicate this poem in memory to those times many years ago - of my early morning visits to my older sister Elizabeths household - which was so full of life - two dogs - two sons - two daughters a basement and garage full of golf clubs - mix in a mischievous golf pro husband all made a perfect setting for the calming affect of the CBC morning show, Morning-side, along with the host who I liked to refer to as Mr Canada - Peter Gzowski - all filtering through that wonderful smell of burnt toast and fresh coffee emanating from Liz's kitchen through the front screen door - this truly was a memorable vignette entering her characteristically wonderful home. Her love of flowers lined the winding path a fragrance sweetly outmatched by burnt toast and coffee and of course the radio turned up to - "Morning Side" - hanging on Peters every word.
