Play me some blues
so thoughts let loose to run
will fall to a gentle pace
where a nod to the hanging ends of duty not yet done
will lighten regret with shrugged acceptance
where the pain of careless acts is lessened
by the beggar's blessing
play me some soul
to find a mellow line to hang the shame
of holding back to act at being coy
to enhance the dance in a sweet ménage
with those tempters, thrill and joy,
brushed aside the darkened angel guilt
to take what seemed on offer to the very hilt
if tempted now, again or yet again
to bring these things to a more fitting end
play me some forgiving country
to calm the nagging voice
still all call to action
spurn the needless tying up of ends
celebrate, or resign to life's full folly
in the evening air on the front porch
slowtaken drink and melancholy
